Charlie Landsborough, who grew up in the North End, received almost half of the votes (46%) from local residents in a poll last year, who were asked to choose one of three local heroes that they wanted to see featured in a new piece of artwork at Birkenhead North Train Station.
Liverpool City Region Artist of the Year, Paul Curtis, best known for his striking turquoise “wings” mural in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, has completed the project.
Charlie grew up in North Birkenhead and taught at local primary school Portland Road. He is truly a “local legend” who has inspired many in Birkenhead and around the world with his music.
To celebrate Charlie’s legacy and all local heroes in our wonderful North End community, we’re asking everyone who lives or has a connection to the North End and Charlie to visit the mural, share pictures, memories and stories between Monday 9th May and Wednesday 19th May:

The mural competition last year was launched by Cradle to Career, a long-term initiative that aims to transform the lives of children and young people in North Birkenhead by bringing the community and organisations that serve it together. It is a celebration of the passion, talent and creativity that has come from the North End over the years.
